The Wellington girls scored 13 3-pointers Friday night, but still lost to Andover, 53-48. The Wellington boys lost the nightcap to Andover 77-29.
Both teams will get Tuesday night off before playing Friday against Andale during homecoming festivities.
In the girls game, Wellington fell behind 14-6 and was trailing 20-15 at the half. The Crusaders one shave the lead to one in the third and would eventually take the lead.
Andover pulled away in the end.
"It was a fun game," said Kevin Hackerott, Wellington head girls basketball coach. "It was a tale of two very different teams. They were tall and could pound the boards. We were small and had the outside shots."
Dani Anderson scored 17 points, including five treys for Wellington. Erianne Adams scored 11 and three 3-pointers. Ashlyn Whaley had 9 and two treys, Derian Weber had two 3-pointers and 6 points. Kailey Jenkins cashed a trey while Madi Becker had 2.
Wellington was without Sarah Amrein, who is out with a concussion. Hackerott said she may be back for Friday's game.
"I'm pretty sure we broke a school record," Hackerott said about Wellington's 3-pointers. "Who knows, maybe a state record."
The boys could have used a couple of those 3-pointers. Wellington trailed Andover 24-9 at the end of the first quarter and 47-15 at half en route to a 48-point loss.
"The only thing we did right was get off the bus," said Brian Buchanan, Wellington head boys basketball coach. "It was the worst game ever."
Wellington had no boys in double figures while Andover had three. Jobe led Andover with 19 points.
Scoring for Wellington were: Jeremy Edwards 4, Ramsey 2, Anderson 3, Janney 2, Heath 2, Jorday Edwards 5, Jenkin 2, Vargas 9. Wellington had 10 field goals, no threes and were 9-16 from the free throw line.
Scoring for Andover were Driver 6, Garmin 2, Kausnick 12, Ayers 2, Oberg 12, Jobe 19, Tyler 2, Maloney 5, Wreth 9 Pear 5. Andover had 20 twos, seven treys and were 16-23 from the free throw line.
