John Wayne Shipley, of Wellington, Kansas, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at his residence at the age of 42.
John was born the son of Skip and Brenda (Richardson) Shipley on Sunday, March 23, 1969 in Downey, California.
On March 11, 1989, John and Melinda Martin were united in marriage in Norwalk, California. Together they celebrated 22 years of marriage.
Prior to his diagnosis of MS, John was a Journeyman Electrician in the oil industry. In 2005, the family moved from California to a farm southwast of Wellington, Kansas where they have resided since. John was known by many as a man of great faith and encouragement. His favorite scripture was Romans 12:1-2.
Survivors include his wife, Melinda Shipley; sons, Daniel Wayne Shipley and Andrew W. Shipley; daughter, Elizabeth M.I. Shipley all of Wellington, Kansas; parents, Skip and Brenda Shipley; brother, Jeff Shipley all of Downey, California; grandmother, Mary Richardson of Wildemar, California; his best friend, Russell Shively of Winfield, Kansas along with several extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vern Richardson.
Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012.
Funeral services for John will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012 in First Freewill Baptist Church, Wellington, Kansas.
A private interment will be held at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.
Memorials have been established in his loving memory with First Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund or National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
