Candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, J.R. Claeys (R), made a stop at the Wellington News, Tuesday. Earlier he had visited Winfield and Arkansas City.
Q: What issues are important to you?
A: “There are two things that are probably most important in the Secretary of State's office. The first and most important is elections ... The next Secretary of State will likely be the one who will be implementing a voter identification law in Kansas." The other issue is red tape and paper work for small business.
Q: How do you plan on informing voters about the I.D. law?
A: "We want counties like Sumner County to have the ability to have videos, web videos, radio ads, things like that that might be costly to them. A county like Johnson county has a bigger budget, they can do those kinds of things."
Q: There are a lot of small businesses in Wellington, what would you say to them?
A: "We don't want to be adding more of a burden, more paper work, more regulation or more fees to the businesses that are trying to grow in the state."
Q: What would you tell a person who was planning on starting their own business in the near future?
A: "It's important we keep the costs as low as possible to do business in Kansas because we want people to stay here, we want them to do business here, we want them to grow here and create jobs here."
