Doris Imogene Hackett, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, (formerly of Wellington, Kansas) died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas at the age of 78.
    Doris was born the daughter of Raymond R. and Ida Olive (Baker) Riggs on Thursday, February 11, 1932 in rural Wellington, Kansas.
    In 1957, Doris and Homer Hackett were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church, Wellington, Kansas. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage.
    She was a graduate of Wellington High School and received a Bachelors Degree from Emporia State University. Doris pursued her business ambitions with Conoco Oil Co. in Ponca City, Oklahoma. They later moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana where Doris eventually pursued a teaching career. She retired in 1998.
    Following retirement, Doris enjoyed traveling and playing cards, specifically Pitch and Bridge; however, her greatest joy came from spending time with husband, family and grandchildren.
    Survivors include her husband, Homer Lee Hackett of Lake Charles, Louisiana, daughter, Barbara Jean (Hackett) Ellender and her husband Mark, grandsons: Christopher Lee and Michael Thomas Ellender all of Houston, Texas, sisters: Bonnie Faye Landes and her husband Merle and JoAnn Ostrander and her husband Tommie all of Wellington, Kansas along with numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Lawrence Riggs, Floyd Riggs and Louise Sawyer.
    Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 27, 2010 with family present from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
    Funeral services for Doris will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010 in the First Baptist Church, 201 West Lincoln, Wellington, Kansas.
    Interment will follow in the Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington, Kansas.
    Memorials have been established with MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
