Velma Lorene Hugg, resident of Ponca City, passed away Friday, January 6, 2012, at her home.  She was 92.

The service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2012 at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lisa Crone-Sheldon, Pastor and the Rev. Robert Montgomery, Associate Pastor, officiating.  Entombment will then follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, OK.  Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Velma was born on December 9, 1919 to Arno and Ethel Goodman in Wellington, Kansas.  She graduated from Wellington High School and earned her business degree from Gregg Business College in Wichita, Kansas.  After graduation she began a career in the automotive accounting business.

She was married to Waldron Samuel "Sam" Hugg on November 16, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas.  The couple made their first home in Wichita where their two daughters, Karen Kay and Connie Jo, were born.

The family lived in Arizona for a period of time before returning to Derby, Kansas.  In the late 1960's the family moved to Ponca City and Velma began work for Albright Insurance agency as head bookkeeper - a position she held for 20 years.  Upon retirement she became a volunteer for the hospital gift shop.  Velma has held various offices in the American Business Women’s Association. She enjoyed her family and her church. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Kay Behrens and her husband Clyde of Ponca City and Connie Jo Buxton and her husband Bodie of Mosselle, MS, seven grandchildren Rhonda Waters and her husband Rick of Ponca City, David Rush and his wife Kimberley of Edmond, OK, Debra Horany and her husband Jeff of Edmond, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Buxton of Hattiesburg, MS, Jeffrey Buxton and his wife Kelley of Purvis, MS, Mr. and Mrs. Jason Buxton of MS, and Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Buxton of MS and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, and her husband Sam Hugg just 3 months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Casketbearers will be David Rush, Jeff Horany, Ryan Waters and Rick Waters. Honorary Bearers will be Gary Grayson, Ronnie Ballard, Bodie Buxton and Clyde Behrens.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Image Hospice, 900 East Hartford, Ponca City, OK 74604.
