V. Maxine Givens, 90 of Arkansas City died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Presbyterian Manor.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Maxine was born Dec. 31, 1926 to Lee Robert Nelson and Evah Katherine (Burden) Nelson in Cedar Vale, Kans. She attended Winfield High School. On Aug. 4, 1946 she married Boone Givens in Wellington and the couple made their home in Arkansas City. Maxine was a homemaker and member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the church ladies circle, V.F.W. ladies auxiliary and Salmugundi’s.
Maxine is survived by her three sons, Michael Givens and wife, Saundra of Wellington, Robert Givens and Sara Wisecup of Ft. Morgan, Colo,, Steven Givens of Jacksonville, Fla.; six sisters, Kay Bonewell of Arkansas City, Margaret Lister of Burden, Carolee Elswick of Clovis, N.M., Donna Iseminger of Broken Arrow, Okla., Cheri Campbell of Bella Vista, Ark. and Marsha Nelson of Winfield; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Justin, Chad, Drew, Matt, Wes and Jessica Givens; 12 great grandchildren, Grayson, Fallon, Isla, Hannah, Wyatt, Logan, Cole, Caitlin, Kase, Rylee, Cassey and Brendan Givens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Boone in 2013; brothers, Rollin and Russell Nelson; sister, LaVonne Shaff and daughter in laws, Sandy Givens and Kate Givens.
Memorials have been established with Hope Cemetery Shelter Project or the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
