Brenda Kay (Murray) Erker, 62, formerly of Wellington, KS; passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, in West End, NC.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church in Candor, N.C., on Friday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will be held in Wellington at a later date.

Brenda was born May 25th, 1955 in Elkhart, Kan., to Freda Jean (Fowler) and John Hershal Murray. She grew up in Elkhart, until 1968 when she moved with her family to Wellington, to start a dairy farm.

It was in Wellington where she met her husband Edwin whom she married on March 23, 1973. Brenda and her husband Edwin raised three boys in Wellington; Chadwick, Jarrod, and Nicholas.

Brenda began her career in banking at The Bank of Commerce. From there, she moved to Security State Bank and eventually to 1st National Bank of Wellington where she worked for 14 years.

She not only worked in banking but also owned and operated Family Ties, a shoe store, where the residents of Wellington came for shoes and Brenda’s smiling personality.

In 2004, Brenda and Edwin moved to Loveland, Colo., where Brenda accepted a position as Vice President in charge of Human Resources for Advantage Banks of Colorado.

In Colorado, Brenda enjoyed being active in the outdoors, hiking, and spending time with family.

From Colorado, Brenda moved to West End, N.C., in 2011 where she and Edwin would enjoy an easy, quiet pace to life. Many weekends were spent on their boat enjoying the lake and their dog, Mia.

Brenda was also an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her many gardens. No matter where she lived, Brenda could make beautiful things grow.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 44 years Edwin Erker; her son Chadwick Erker and his wife Amy of Tampa, Fla., son Jarrod Erker and his wife Bethany of Berthoud, Colo., son Nicholas Erker and his wife J’Nan of Lee’s Summit, Mo., brother John Murray and sister-in-law Mary Lou of Wellington, sister-in-law Jeannie Murray and the late William Russell Murray of Wellington, grandchildren Emily Erker, Brady Erker, Meredith Erker, Gabriel Erker, August Erker, Margaret Erker, and Marek Erker.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Freda Murray, her brother William Russell Murray, and her granddaughter Nevaeh Rose Erker.
