David Van Baumgarner, age 74, of Wellington, passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. He worked for Boeing for 31 years and retired as a Supervisor.

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend was born June 7, 1943 in Wellington, to James D. Baumgarner and Clara E. (Ogle) Baumgarner. He graduated from Wellington High School and enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a member of the 82nd Airborne from 1962–1968. He served his country in Panama during the Panama crisis. He was honorably discharged and remained faithfully devoted to his country.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, Richard and Johnnie Mack Baumgarner; three sisters, Margaret Rayl, Mary Anice Turley and Jane Bennett;

Survivors include son, Mark Baumgarner and his wife Beverly, daughter, Tari Stanbrough and her Larry all of Ponca City, Okla., daughter, Lisa Kogle of Wellington, daughter Dedra Callins of Wichita, and son Dameon Baumgarner of Wellington; sister, Sue Freemyer and her husband Howard of Jayton, Texas; niece Cathy Catron of Arkansas City; sister in law, Ani Baumgarner of Bedford, Pa.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was called “Friend” by many.

In honoring David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.

Family will celebrate his life with Memorial Graveside Services at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. All friends are invited.

Memorials have been established with Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, Mo., and Kindred Hospice in Wichita, in lieu of flowers. Memorials can be mailed to or left at the funeral home.
