Lupe Rico, of Belle Plaine, Kansas, loving mother and grandmother, died Friday, August 6, 2010 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita at the age of 83.
Lupe was born the daughter of Isabel and Gavina (Marquecho) Gomez on Monday, August 16, 1926 at the family home in Belle Plaine, Kansas.
On June 9, 1951, Lupe and Jose Rico were united in marriage at St. Michael Catholic Church in Mulvane, Kansas. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Rico and her parents, husband, infant daughter Elizabeth Rico, 5 sisters: Lorenza, Catlina, Pauline, Lucia and 2 brothers: Pete and John.
Survivors include her daughters: Ophelia Wood and her husband Leroy, Linda Fillmore and her husband James all of Belle Plaine, Kansas, Juanita Hunter and her husband Herbert of Wellington, Kansas, Christina Rico of Caldwell, Kansas, grandchildren: Denise Flippin and her husband Andrew of Haysville, Kansas, Jeffery Hunter, Alisha Hunter and her husband Ed Williams, Steven Hunter all of Wellington, Kansas, great-grandchild, Chancelor Williams of Wellington, Kansas and a sister, Teofila Luna of Sedgwick, Kansas.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 201 with family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass for Lupe will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony / St. Rose Catholic Church, Wellington, Kansas.
Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Belle Plaine Cemetery, Belle Plaine, Kansas.
A memorial has been established in her name and loving memory with Catholic Charities, 532 North Broadway, Wichita, Kansas 67214. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
