Jerry D. Wiley, 74, of Wellington, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, Kansas. 
   Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Saturday, February 20th at the First United Methodist Church. Reverend Brent Clayton will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home & Crematory of Wellington, Kansas.     Jerry Dean Wiley was born on January 3, 1936 the son of Gerald and Fawnie Falkenberg Wiley in South Haven, Kansas. He was a 1954 graduate of the South Haven High School and attended Kansas State University. He was united in marriage with Judy McLain on September 2, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Wellington, Kansas. Jerry worked in law enforcement his entire life, starting with the Wellington Police Department in 1957. Four years later he took the position of undersherrif for Sheriff John Patterson. Jerry held that position until being elected as sheriff in 1974 and remained Sheriff until 1984. Jerry continued in law enforcement working at the Wichita Federal Courthouse until his retirement in 1998. While working in law enforcement Jerry also worked the family farm and raised cattle. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and dearly loved his entire family.
    Surviving to honor his memory are his wife, Judy Wiley, of Wellington, KS; sons; Mitch Wiley of Wellington, KS; and Mike Wiley and his wife Stacy of Wellington, KS; daughter, Kim Mirt of Wellington, KS; grandchildren, Marissa Wiley, Dalton Wiley, Addie Wiley, Trevor Mirt and Jillian Wiley as well as several nieces and nephews.
    Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Dustin Wiley, and his brother, Norman Max Wiley.
