Lucas Alfred Machado, Sr., 83, lifelong Sumner County resident, died early Friday morning, Aug. 15, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Wellington, where he had been a resident for the last several years. He retired in 1984 as a track walker after 42 years of service with the Santa Fe Railroad.
A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Father Andrew E. Heiman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 18, 2008.
Lucas Alfred Machado was born on Oct. 18, 1924 in Los Angeles, Calif., to Anaclito Machado and Romana (Pacheco) Machado.
He married Jesus Marie Sanchez on Oct. 19, 1948 in Wellington. She preceded him in death in December of 2003.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jesus Marie Machado; and two brothers, Gilberto and Gregorio Machado.
He is survived by his three sons, Ambrosis Machado and his wife Juanita of Wichita, Alfred Machado, Jr. and his wife Lupe of Wichita, and Frank Garcia of Wichita; three daughters, Balentina White and her husband Bert of Wichita, Pauline Duncan and her husband Loren of Wichita, and Connie Casanova and her husband Lonnie Weimer of Denver, Colo.; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
