Iva Margaret Nance
Iva Margaret Nance, of Wellington, Kansas, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Wellington, Kansas at the age of 88.
Iva, only child of Mary Josephine (Martin) Holt and James Earl Holt was born on October 27, 1920 in Fayette County, Illinois. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Vandalia, Illinois High School in 1937.
On November 5, 1938, Iva married William Robert Nance. They resided in Shobonier, Illinois until moving to Ellensburg, Washington in 1949. She was a charter member of Chestnut Street Baptist Church and was Administrative Assistant of The Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Kittitas County.
In December of 1989, Iva went to be with her aging mother in Wellington, Kansas. There she became active in the Wellington Senior Center and worked to start a volunteer network. Following her mother's death, she has resided in Oxford, Kansas.
Adding sweetness to life, she excelled in making and sharing home made candies with her community, but her life long hobby was rhymed verse and customized greeting cards. At age sixty-five, Iva self published, "Off the Top of My Head". This limited collection of verses, saved or remembered, covered the years from 1930-1985... followed by "Off the Top of My Head" Take II, 1985-1990 and Take III, 1990-2000.
She also successfully marketed poetry, first person accounts, and several jokes. Many unsubmitted writings have been put aside in an attempt to put early childhood memories on paper for the grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her eldest child, William David Nance.
Mourning the loss are her son, Steven Nance of Lakewood, California, daughter, Kathy Nance of Wellington, Kansas, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
Private family services will be held at a later date in the High Valley Cemetery in Ellensburg, Washington.
