    Frances Ames, 96, of Wichita, formerly of Wellington, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Presbyterian Manor in Wichita.
     Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday June 12, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wellington. Interment will be in the Sumner Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
    Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at the Hawks Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wellington.
    Frances Elizabeth Ames, the daughter of Clarence H. and Margaret Cassidy Curtis, was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Frankfort, Kan. She passed away June 8, 2008.
     Frances was raised in Frankfort and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1929. She attended Kansas State University, Emporia State and graduated from Southwestern College. She taught in the Seneca, Kansas and Topeka, Kansas schools before her marriage to John C. Ames on Aug. 21, 1938 in Frankfort, Kan.
   They moved to Wellington that fall where John taught in the Wellington High School. They resided in Wellington from 1938 until 2002 when they moved to the Presbyterian Manor in Wichita.
     Frances did not resume teaching until her children were grown, then taught 16 years in Wellington at McKinley and Lincoln schools. She retired in 1976.
    Mrs. Ames was a lifelong and faithful member of the Presbyterian Church. She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association, Inter Nos Study Club, Wellington Garden Club and Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority.
    Mrs. Ames was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Ames; grandson Phillip Ames; and great-granddaughter Peyton Dobbins.
    Surviving family members are her son Allen Ames and wife Terry of Wichita; daughter Kathryn Dobbins and husband Loyd of Yukon, Okla.; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Ames and wife Leah, Dana Lynn Jones and husband Bill, Derek Dobbins and wife Shila; great grandsons, Austin and Logan Jones and great-granddaughter Keegan Dobbins.
