Ray E. Evans, 68, of Wellington, retired salesman, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita.
Ray was born the son of Homer and Alice (Solomon) Evans on Thursday, Aug. 31, 1939 in Olney, Ill.
Ray graduated from Wellington High School in the Class of 1957. After graduation he attended Kansas State University for two years. He left college and joined the United State Navy from 1960 to 1964. Following his time in the military, Ray went back to school and graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelors Degree.
Ray held various sales positions through the years and was employed briefly as a cab driver. He looked forward to Halloween and never let his age keep him from getting into a costume. Ray also enjoyed playing bridge and earned Master Points in contract bridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two aunts, an uncle, a cousin and nephew-in-law Bryan Kellum.
Survivors include: his sister, Linda Butler and her husband Dennis of Kingston, Okla.; nieces, Christa Jones and her husband Roger and Carmen Wenzel and her husband Eric, great-nephew, Zak Kellum; great-nieces, Malorie Wenzel, Callie Wenzel, Rylie Jones all of Forney, Texas and a cousin, Bob Blender of Norco, Calif., and his many friends from the Class of 1957 and the Bridge Studio of Wichita.
Memorial graveside services for Ray will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2008 in Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name and loving memory with the Wellington Public Library, 121 West 7th Street, Wellington, KS 67152. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
