Wellington senior Ryleigh Buck was named the 2015-16 Gatorade Player of the Year for softball in Kansas this week by catchitkansas.com. The 5-9 senior shortstop put up impressive numbers in the stats column with a .634 battling average, five home runs and 37 RBI. Buck led the Crusaders to the Class 4A-Division 1 state tournament quarterfinals.

Wellington High School had multiple athletes qualify for State this season, but had no placers during the weekend. In the pole vault on the boys’ side, Lukas Soria and teammate Matthew Mason competed in Wichita on Saturday.
