Kick-off of the 2011 high school football season is September 2, and Wellington's new Head Coach, Dylan Schimdt is wasting no time in trying to get the community involved with Crusader football.
"Any successful team that you look at, at any place...has a lot of people behind the scenes that are helping out," Schmidt said. He said when he came to town, he knew he wanted to get people involved.
"I wanted to start an organization called Friends of the Program," the coach explained. "It's people behind the scenes that are going to help out with things that are associated with football." The Friends of the Program initiative is aimed towards businesses with the goal of raising money for Crusader football using a system of "Levels." The fundraiser was approved by the USD 353 Board of Education, Thursday, July 14.
Level 1: $300 commitment from business due by August 1, 2011. This entitles a business to one 2011 Crusader Football, Friends of the Program shirt, one sideline pass, one chalk talk pass allowing a business owner or designated employee to participate in the locker room pep talk, and a 2011 Crusader football team photo.
Level 2: $200 commitment from business, due by August 1, 2011. This entitles a business to one 2011 Crusader Football, Friends of the Program shirt, one sideline pass, and a team photo.
Level 3: $100 commitment from business, due by August 1, 2011. This entitles a business to one 2011 Crusader Football, Friends of the Program shirt, and a team photo.
Schmidt said Amy Jenkins and Susan Treft have really stepped up to get things going for Friends of the Program. Mom's Club will also be helping out the football team by preparing the pre-game meal. Big Cheese Pizza will be providing pizza for the post game meal each week.
"There's never been a pregame meal on Friday nights," Schmidt continued. "But I wanted to make sure we had a pregame meal and a post game meal." If a business is interested in learning more about Friends of the Program, they are encouraged to call Susan Treft at 620-399-3114 or Amy Jenkins at 316-303-6545.
