Eighth grade girls come up short

    The Wellington Eighth Grade Girls Basketball opened up the season Tuesday night versus a very talented Andover squad and came up a little short 27-24. 
    Both teams played a full court pressing style of defense which created a lot turnovers. 
    "The difference in the game was us not being able to be strong with the basketball in the first quarter", said Coach Eric Adams. 
    Savannah Cornejo led the Knights with 10 points to go along with her 5 steals. 
    "She played a great overall floor game,” Adams said.
    Shanlyn Hefley chipped in 4 points and 4 steals and Meghan Gilkey scored 4 points and also had 4 rebounds. 
    Kailey Jenkins led the Knights with 5 boards, Sydney Shields came off the bench a played a great game with 4 points and 3 rebounds. 
    Megan Amrein rounded out the scoring with 2 points and 3 rebounds and Ashley collins also contributed off the bench with 2 rebounds and a steal. 
    "This was a great game between two very good teams".  "This group is going to be very successful this year". 
    The Knights hit the road Thursday night at Andover Central.
