The Wellington eighth grade girls basketball team fell to Rose Hill Saturday by the
score of 43-26 in the first round of the Pioneer League Tournament in Mulvane.  The Knights end the season with a 8-6 overall record and 6-4 in the league.
"I'm so proud of this group of girls" said Eric Adams, Wellington eighth grade girls coach.  "The wins are nice but they improved so much from November to February."
"They had great work ethic and were just great kids to be around. I'll miss them."
The game started out just like the past four games have for the Knights.
Wellington opened the game with a 10-3 lead by hitting open shots and playing great defense.
The second through fourth quarter the shots stopped falling and Rose Hill started hitting guarded jump shots and the Knights could not stop the Rose Hill run.
"I think our girls became very tense when Rose Hill was making every shot they put up".  "We just didn't respond".
Individually for the Knights, Halynn Page led the Knights with 7 points and nine rebounds.
"If Halynn puts in some extra time to work on her post moves, watch out," Adams said.
Jaedyn Ledesma scored 5 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Ledesma ends the season with 153 total rebounds for a per game average of 10.9.
"If the ball was anywhere in her area, she ate it up," Adams said.
Kelsey Whaley scored 5 points, dished out three assists and created four steals.
Carlie McComb scored 4 points and had four rebounds to go along with two steals and two assists.   Shelby Hamel scored 2 points and had three rebounds and three steals.
Avery Lewellen scored 2 points.  Holly Wright had three rebounds and a steal.  Micah Rogers had two rebounds and a steal.
"I want to thank all the parents for making this such an enjoyable season," Adams said.  "These group of girls represented our school and town the right way."
