The Mayfield baseball teams were part of Little Sunflower baseball tournaments held in Caldwell and Medicine Lodge.
The Mayfield 8-and-under and 12-and-under teams were both victorious in the tournaments held in Caldwell.
In the 10-and-unders, Wellington placed second, losing to Alva, Okla.
The oldest group, the 12-and-under Mayfield Cardinals dominated its competition with wins against South Haven, Caldwell and Conway Springs.
The 10-and-unders were not nearly as fortunate. The Cards played Alva, Okla. to three games. They lost the first 5-3, thus throwing them in the losers’ bracket, but came back to win the second 8-7, before losing in the championship final game 3-2.
The 8-and-unders had an excellent tournament.
The Cards defeated Anthony 18-2 and Kiowa 17-4. They then defeated Kiowa again 14-6.
The 8-and-unders are currently 21-4 and 9-0 in league.
The 12-and-under team probably will not go to a NBC Hap Dumont state tournament, but the 10-and-unders and 8-and-unders will.
Mayfield’s 10-and-unders will go to Dodge City, while the 8-and-unders will go to Topeka.
Both tourneys will be July 7-13.
