    The Wellington seventh grade girls basketball team lost to Mulvane 17-14 Saturday morning in the first round of the Pioneer League Tournament held in El Dorado.
    It was a hard fought game throughout with neither team getting ahead of the other by over three points.
    Wellington got ahead 13-12 when Mulvane hit a 3 pointer to go ahead 15-12 at the 2:01 mark of the fourth quarter.
    Caitlin Williams hits free throw with 1:06 left in the game to bring Wellington within two, 15-13.
    Leah Nelson hit a free throw with 25 seconds to bring Wellington within a point, 15-14.
    Wellington's press forced Mulvane into a turnover with 12 seconds left in the game.
    The Knights had the ball out under their basket — and attempted three shots to take the lead and get a possible win, but failed to capitalize. 
    Wellington fouled in last two seconds. Mulvane made free throws on the other end and won 17-14.
    Both teams played tremendous man to man press defense, according to sources.  In two previous meetings the score was in the upper 20's and lower 30's.
    Wellington ended its season at 5-9 .
    Caitlin Williams played a great game with 4 points and 16 rebounds, followed by Shelbie Wright with 2 points and eight rebounds. 
    Also scoring were Baylee Jacobs with 4 points, Peyton Adams 3 and Leah Nelson 1.      Also helping the team especially on the defensive end of the court were Tyanna Hughes and Courtney Luna.
