All-star baseball/softball post season tournaments in Wellington and Mayfield will be on tap in the next couple of weeks.
Both the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth League in Wellington and the NBC Hap Dumont League in Mayfield are winding down their regular seasons and will start the process of defining their summer with post-season baseball.
The Cal Ripken League and its older counterpart, the Babe Ruth League, are still playing regular season games this week.
Cal Ripken teams will announce all stars this week. Wellington will have a 9, 10, 11 and 12-year-old all star team consisting of 12-or-so boys from the various regular season Wellington teams playing this summer at Worden Park.
These all star teams will then prepare for the district tournaments which will probably be played during the first or second weekend of July.
Babe Ruth District 3 Commissioner Bob Willis said not all the details for the district tournaments have been finalized but 9 and 10 year old teams will be playing in Wellington while 11 and 12 year olds will travel to Derby.
The Cal Ripken state tournaments will follow. The dates and locations for these tournaments are:
9-unders — Haysville, July 24-18;
10-unders — Fort Scott, July 17-21;
11-unders — Peabody, July 17-21;
12-unders — Lyons, July 17-21.
The Babe Ruth Leagues which will include 13-year-old, 14-and-under, and 15-and-under all star teams will start district play sometime during the week of July 13. No dates have been finalized Willis said.
The district tournaments for the 13-year-olds will be in Rose Hill. The 14-year-olds will play in Wellington, and the 15-year-olds will play in Winfield.
The Babe Ruth state tournaments will be as follows:
13 — Osage City, July 24-29.
14-unders — Hillsboro, July 24-29.
15-unders — Wellington, July 24-29.
There will be no district tournament for 16-18 year old all stars. The Wellington team will play in Garden City, July 17-22.
The girl softball Cal Ripken teams will not be playing district games.
The girls softball state tournaments are as follows:
9-unders — Haysville, July 24-28.
10-unders — Rose Hill, July 6-8.
12-unders — Mulvane, July 13-15.
14-unders — Lyons, July 14-15.

The NBC Hap Dumont/American Softball Association Little Sunflower Leagues does it a little differently than Cal Ripken.
The boys baseball and girls softball teams do not pick all stars but play a league tournament with their regular season teams. If a team wins the league tournament they qualify for state.
Also, if the team has won several other tournaments they will have automatically qualified for the NBC Hap Dumont state tournaments.
Little Sunflower tournaments are being held throughout the area this week. They are as follows:
•8-under boys — Caldwell;
•10-under boys – Medicine Lodge;
•12-under boys — Caldwell;
•8-under girls — Mayfield;
•10-under girls — Harper;
•12-under girls — Anthony;
•14-under girls — Conway Springs.
State qualifying tournaments are spread across the state of Kansas. There are too many to mention here, but are listed on kansashapdumontbaseball.com or kasasoftball.org web sites.
