Then there were the hard core area runners.
And then there were a slew of runners from Wellington.
Needless to say the Border Queen Fair Run in Caldwell was a huge success Sunday with attendance way up from the previous years.
"Wellington really pulled through," said Marc Neal, organizer of the event. "Our participation was through the roof."
Eric Anders of Wellington, who will be Southwestern College bound here shortly, swept the 5K and one-mile events for the males.
The 18-year-old ran the 5K in 18:03.4 outdistancing his dad, John, for second place who finished with a 19:27.4 time .
In the one-mile run, Anders ran the race in 5:05.50 to capture first. Dalton Whaley of Mayfield was a distant second with a 5:30.1 time.
On the female side, Kelly Cink, a 41-year-old from Manhattan, won the 5K run with a 21.44.4 time.
Taberie Halling, a 16-year-old from Caldwell, won the female one-mile run with a 6:46 time.
