The Wellington eighth grade girls basketball team secured a second place finish in the Pioneer League with it home win over El Dorado by the score of 37-23, Monday night.
    Wellington started strong scoring the first 8 points of the game to lead after the first quarter 8-0.     "I was very proud of the way these girls are playing defense right now," said Eric Adams, Wellington eighth grade girls coach.  "They are playing very physical and aggressive man to man defense."
    The Knights led at half 13-5 and held a 24-14 lead after three quarters.  Wellington closed out the Cats in the fourth quarter by outscoring El Dorado 13-9 for the win.
    Individually, Jaedyn Ledesma scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
    Halynn Page scored 9 points and had eight rebounds.  
    Shelby Hamel scored 4 points and grabbed six boards.
    "We feel like we have the best post players in the league, no question about it," Adams said.
    Avery Lewellen had an outstanding game.  Lewellen scored 8 points to go
along with three rebounds and four steals.  
    "I was very proud of Avery," Adams said.
    Carlie McComb scored 4 points and created five steals.  
    Kelsey Whaley scored 3 points and had four steals and three assists.  
    Holly Wright had two rebounds and two steals.
    The Knights finished 6-4 in league play and finish up the regular season with a non-league at Ark City on Thursday.  
    The Pioneer League Tournament begins Saturday at Augusta.
