Despite another slow start, the Wellington Crusaders ran the Maize South Mavericks out of their own gym on Dec. 16. Three seniors with double digit points, Wellington won 54-39 for their second victory of the season.
The Mavericks never scored more than 11 points in any of the four quarters against the Crusaders. In the first period, Maize South had a 9-6 lead. But Wellington answered with 15 points to go in at halftime up 21-18.
The Crusaders came out of the gates slow again, mustering only seven points in the third, and the score was all knotted up at 28 heading into the fourth quarter.
Wellington had a huge final period, which ended up being an exclamation point, outscoring Maize South 26-11. Seniors Evan Keller and Taylan Ybarra each had 12 points on the game, and Ryan Jenkins finished with 11.
