After a taking a beat down in the first half, the Wellington boys basketball team played an inspired second half, but came up short. The Crusaders lost 45-39 at Andale, Tuesday, falling to 1-4 on the year.

In the first quarter Andale took the lead and would hold on to it all night. It was 12 - 4, Andale, heading into the second quarter; that's when the Indians blistered the Wellington's defense, more than doubling their first period production.

Turnovers were the theme for the first half, which was punctuated by an Andale missed jumper, which was rebounded and put through the basket as the buzzer sounded, giving the Indians a 26-10 halftime advantage. The first half of Tuesday's game is one the Crusaders would like to forget.

"It was a case of playing individual basketball rather than playing team basketball," said Head Coach, Brian Buchanan.  "...There was no cooperation on the offensive side." But it was a tale of two halves, in the third quarter Wellington came roaring out of the locker room.

At one point they went on a 9-0 run and would get 15 big points in the third period. Seniors Evan Keller, and Ryan Jenkins, along with Logan Woodbridge, junior,  all contributed four points each during the third. Nick Becker, also hit a three pointer during the period. The momentum was in full favor of Wellington. While the team got buckets on offense, they denied them on "D."

"Defensively we did a lot of good things," Buchanan said. "We held a pretty good Andale team to [45] points, it gave us a chance to win." With four minutes left in the fourth quarter, Wellington had pulled within four points of the Indians. But the hole that was dug in the first half was too deep. The final score was 45-39, in favor of Andale.

"We've just got to be able to finish games," Buchanan added. "That's what it comes down to."
