1. Well, it won’t be like last season when Wellington had eight home football games. But the Crusaders will have at least five. Next season Wellington will only have four home games because of the Kansas 9-game uneven schedule.

2. Wellington head football coach Linn Hibbs said this year’s schedule is by far the toughest schedule in his 15 years of coaching. And don’t get him started on starting the season with Andale. “It’s absolutely crazy that the two top teams in the league over the past five years are playing the very first game. It’s nuts.”

3. Nothing worked Wellington’s way when it came to scheduling. In week 2 when Wellington needed a non-league opponent it got powerhouse Buhler instead of getting a weaker opponent like El Dorado or Valley Center. And there is no Kingman on the schedule, which is now in a different league.

4. Wellington’s 66 players are the most Hibbs has ever had. “When we won the state championship in Goddard we had 59 players,” Hibbs said. Attribute that to a huge sophomore class with 27 players out.

5. Wellington’s scrimmage last week wasn’t very scrimmage like with the players working on drills especially special teams. There were two reasons for this. Andale was there scouting so Wellington did not want to tip its hand and Hibbs said Wellington’s special teams play has to improve on their 2009 performance.
