Jerry Leroy Haggard

Jerry Leroy Haggard, 85, of Phoenix, AZ passed away peacefully on June 15, 2022 with his loving wife by his side. Born in El Dorado, KS in 1936, Jerry was raised in the small town of Wellington Kansas and graduated from Wellington High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Mitzi, in Raton, New Mexico, and their love for each other gave them 67 years.
 Jerry graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s degree in Geology. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Lee, VA. Simultaneously, he attended law school at American University Washington College of Law earning a Juris Doctor in 1965. During his time in Washington D.C., he worked as an attorney for the Public Land Law Review as well as other various government jobs.
 In 1970, Jerry and his family moved to Phoenix, AZ. Jerry was a partner with several law firms in Phoenix Arizona. On October 18, 2004, he was awarded the prestigious title of one of the Best Lawyers in America for more than ten years. He practiced law for 57 years. He belonged to the American, Arizona, District of Columbia and Maricopa County Bar associations, and was a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.
 Jerry loved adventure and exploring which began while growing up on his Aunts’ wheat farm in Kansas. He would find ways to squeeze in rock hunting and especially fishing anytime possible. His passion for skiing and sailing grew which he loved sharing with others.
 Rest in peace Jerry, Dad, Gompies. We miss you dearly, but know you are up there on your sailboat with a smile on your face, pipe in one hand, and a cerveza (Corona) nearby “burying a rail”.
 Jerry is survived by his wife, Mitzi, his children Phil (Julie) and Deidre (Cliff), and grandsons Kendall, Donovan and Bradley.
 A private gathering was held at the home of his daughter Deidre and husband Cliff on Saturday, June 25, 2022.
