George Ellen Galloway, formerly of Blackwell, Okla., died Nov. 13 at Wellington Health and Rehabilitation, Wellington, Kansas. She was 97.
Mrs. Galloway was born on May 28, 1925, at Wilmore, Kansas, to Ira and Iris (Brasher) Metzker. She graduated from Anthony High School in 1943 and worked at Cessna in Wichita. She married Jimmie Dale Galloway in 1947 and they lived in Harper and Ashland before moving to Blackwell where they retired. She thrived as a homemaker, enjoying cooking, canning, quilting, sewing and participation in the Kay County (Oklahoma) Home Demonstration Unit. In their 75 years of marriage, the Galloways enjoyed gardening and yard work, traveling and visiting with family and activities with their church families. They exemplified lives of service to their communities in Ashland and Blackwell, including 30 years delivering Meals on Wheels and helping to prepare Wednesday Night Community Dinners as well as serving on numerous church committees during their more than 60 years with the First United Methodist Church in Ashland and Blackwell.
Mrs. Galloway is survived by her husband, Jim, daughter Sherry Willis and husband Bob of Wellington, Kansas, and son Marsh Galloway and wife Carol of Louisburg, Kansas. Grandchildren include Wes Misak (Wanda Ingram), Wendy Brunton (Jared Brunton), Ian Galloway, Rygh Galloway (Rachael Duty) and Caleigh Galloway (Alex Hodges); great grandchildren Harper Brunton, Kaden Misak and Maddox Misak; step-grandchildren Greg Willis (Sarah Willis), Jeff Willis, Jordan Willis, step-great grandchildren Laken Willis, Brigham Willis, Whitley Willis, Kyle Willis, Drew Willis, Evie Willis, and Addison Willis.
Mrs. Galloway was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leighton and Jack, sisters Norma Joyce and Roberta, grandchildren Ty Misak and Matthew Galloway, and step-grandchild Katlyn Willis.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
