Our railway station was a grand structure that served as the introduction to our community for almost everyone who came to visit or live in Wellington. It stood on Washington Avenue near the railroad crossing until the late 1960s.
Revitalizing Neighborhoods: Wellington’s Land Bank
More than 40 communities across Kansas have established Land Banks to manage and repurpose vacant or abandoned properties, breathing new life into neighborhoods. Since its inception, the Wellington Land Bank has acquired 26 residential properties that are now available for purchase.
MKC Hosts Poultry Swap
Recently ,the community gathered at Mid Kansas Cooperative) MKC (eager to exchange not only information but chickens and ducks .The event attracted several vendors as well as locals that raise backyard chickens .It‘s the first of many that MKS‘s Feed Sales Marketer for South/ Central Kansas ,Barbie Johnson plans to host in Wellington.
U.S. 160 Bridge Being Replaced in Harper
Beginning the first week of June, work to replace the U.S. 160 bridge over Sand Creek in Harper County is expected to begin.

Kansas Tornado Count Surpasses 2023
The number of tornadoes in Kansas to date has surpassed last year’s amount. So far, 40 tornadoes have touched down in the state.
