Due to the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday, May 27, 2024, the Landfill, Recycling Center and Compost Site will all be closed. Monday’s commercial refuse collection will be completed on Tuesday.

Notice of NRP Public Hearing
The County Commissioners will convene a public hearing on June 3, 2024, at 10am in the County Commission Chambers located within the Sumner County Courthouse at 501 North Washington Avenue. During this session, they will deliberate on the potential adoption of a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan (NRP) in accordance with K.S.A.

Resurfacing of US-160
The resurfacing of US160 west of Wellington is currently underway which includes milling the existing surface and applying a hotmixasphalt overlay. Covering a stretch of 21.5 miles, the initiative spans from the Wellington city limits to the Harper/Sumner county line. To accommodate the ongoing work, traffic flow has been adjusted to a single lane, managed by flaggers and a pilot car. Residents are advised to reduce speed and anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes. USD 353 Offers Teachers Crusader Credits
The Wellington School District has implemented the Crusader Credits program as part of its efforts to attract and retain high-quality teachers. This initiative allows USD 353 educators to utilize Professional Development training to enhance their salary, without the requirement of taking or paying for college credits.

Record Setting Baseball Season Ends At Regionals
A Wellington baseball team that’s been exciting to watch this year lost in the Regional Championship to end their season last week. The Dukes played two games in the Regional Tournament, defeating Ulysses in Game 1 and falling to Pratt in the Championship game.
WHS Esports Team Qualifies For Nationals
For the first time in school history, an Esports team from Wellington High School has qualified to compete in the 2024 EGFH National Championship. The WHS “Overwatch Team” placed 13th in the nation to earn a coveted spot in the finals for Overwatch 2.
Pet of the Week
It’s Oreo’s time! He has been with us now for 540 days. Pulled from death row at a kill shelter, he's about 2 1/2 years old, a large mixed breed and weighs 50 pounds. When you first come in, you might notice that Oreo can jump, but once you get him out, he is a gentle boy. When you sit down, he wants to sit near you or on you if you let him. He really is a love bug! It's easy to overlook dogs like Oreo because of their kennel behavior. But, we urge you to get to know their real person alities outside the shelter kennel.
