Lady Crusaders Finish 3rd In Orange & Black Classic

Last week, the Wellington girl's basketball team were invited to compete in Colby's Orange and Black Classic. e Lady Dukes cruised to a 74-24 victory over Concordia in Game 1. In Game 2, they faced the undefeated Hays Lady Indians. Hays, the #1 team in 5A, won the game in overtime, 74-72, putting Wellington in the 3rd place game against Beloit on Saturday afternoon.

Border Queen Harvest Hub Commercial Kitchen Coming To Caldwell

Construction will soon begin on a public-use commercial kitchen in the Caldwell Workspace thanks to a grant from K-State 105 given to the Sumner County Economic Development (SCED) as part of the Border Queen Harvest Hub (BQHH). e remodeling will be undertaken through a combination of volunteer opportunities and the use of local professional services.

Dynamic Dukes Start Season vs. Derby

Brenda Gray gushed with pride as she talked about the upcoming basketball season for the Dynamic Dukes. Gray, a Special Education teacher at WHS, took over the program as the Coach/Sponsor in 2012 when she moved from WMS to the high school. e Dynamic Dukes is part of the Tri-County League program that allows Special Education students to compete in sports. e League includes 8 teams that compete in track and eld, basketball, cheerleading, soccer and other sports. e Dynamic Dukes, formerly known as Special-K, only competes in basketball and play League schools on Friday afternoons. "We started the name change process about two years ago," said Gray. "I asked if anyone had ever considered changing the name and nobody had. We were looking for something exciting." e squad tipped o their season last Friday against Derby, and they are looking forward to their big home game on February 7th when they take on the Haysville-Campus Colts. All age school students will attend and the pepband will play giving the Dynamic Dukes a feel for what varsity action is like on Friday nights..

Fabric Meets Fine Art

e Beehive Quilt Shop recently hosted a handson class on using Inktense Pencils to create a watercolor eect on fabric. Led by instructor Pam Sackschewsky, the session oered fabric artists a chance to explore a variety of creative techniques.
