Lady Crusaders Make History

For the first time in the history of the program, the Wellington Lady Crusaders basketball team headed to the Kansas State Basketball Championship winning their semi-final game in an overtime thriller against McPherson in Salina.

CherryRoad Media, owner of the Wellington Daily News as well as over 80 other American newspapers, recently acquired a Hutchison, KS based printing operation in an effort to better serve area subscribers - and it’s making a real difference! This facility now prints CherryRoad’s Kansas publications as well as numerous other newspapers in the area.

Wellington Airport Receives Improvement Grant

The Wellington Municipal Airport was one of 58 projects at 37 Kansas airports recently selected to receive a grant from the Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP). The airport’s current rotating beacon is obsolete and the grant for $11,700 will fund its replacement.

Current Board and Commission Openings

Through March 25th, the City will be accepting applications for a number of open positions on several Boards and Commissions. Please consider lending your time and wisdom to the community in the following open positions: Airport Authority Board; 1 position open, must be a City resident with the term running May 1, 2024 – April 30, 2028, and one position, may be a City resident or not, with the term running May 1, 2024 – April 30, 2028.

Pet of the Week

Martin is a handsome 2-3 year old Labrador mix that weighs 47 pounds. He was fostered for a few months so we know a lot about him! He is very loving and would enjoy someone who can give him lots of attention. He has lived with cats and other dogs and does well with proper introductions. He is very aectionate and loyal! He will require a fenced yard because he feels the need to socialize around the neighborhood. Come in and meet Martin this week! We are open Wednesday through Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. If you are interested in adoption, please complete the online application before you come in to speed up the adoption process. We go in order of application received, so the sooner you get in your application, the better! Martin’s adoption fee is $50 o during his special week!
