As the National Depression Glass Association celebrated their volunteers last Saturday, several of them recalled getting started collecting with a piece or two from a family member, often their grandmother.

Kansas Achieves Highest Economic Growth Rate in the Nation

New data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reveals that Kansas experienced remarkable economic growth, reaching a rate of 9.7% in the 3rd quarter of 2023—the fastest among all states. This impressive performance builds on the state’s already strong record, as Kansas held the second-fastest economic growth rate in the 2nd quarter of 2023 at 7.4%.

The Dockum Drugstore Sit-In

The Sumner County Historical & Genealogical Society (SCHGS) will present “The Dockum Drugstore Sit-In,” a talk by Prisca Barnes on January 22nd at 6:30 pm in the Short General Education Center at Cowley College. This free and opento- the-public program delves into the historic 1958 sit-in organized by Wichita’s black students at Dockum Drugstore, a pivotal event in the quest for racial equality and an end to segregation. Facing discrimination in movie theaters and restaurants, the students peacefully protested at the popular lunch counter for three weeks.

Favorite White Chicken Chili 1 small yellow onion, diced 1 tbsp olive oil 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 (14.5 oz) cans chicken broth 1 (7 oz) can diced green chilies 1½ tsp cumin ½ tsp paprika ½ tsp dried oregano ½ tsp ground coriander ¼ tsp cayenne pepper salt & black pepper, to taste 1 (8 oz) pkg cream cheese, cubed 1¼ cup shoepeg corn 2 (15 oz) cans cannellini beans 2½ cups shredded rotisserie chicken 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice 2 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro, plus more for serving Tortilla chips or strips, monterey jack cheese, sliced avocado for serving Heat olive oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add onion, saute a few minutes, add garlic, saute another minute.

Girls Break Records, Beat Collegiate

The Wellington Lady Crusader basketball squad tied a school record with 84 points at Wichita Collegiate in their first game back from Christmas break to improve to 7-1 on the season. Wellington jumped out to a 14-4 lead immediately capitalizing off four Val Norwood steals in the trapping zone defense.
