Grant Helps Expand Cowley Welding Program

The Cowley College Sumner Campus welding lab is expanding thanks to a grant from The Kansas Department of Commerce. The Jobs and Innovative Industry Skills Training Grant ( JIIST) award of $41,055, in addition to $49,981 in matching funds from the college, will fund the addition of seven new welding booths each with two stations, an advanced extraction system, and updated welding tables.

Did this bring back memories from your childhood? Perhaps you are still an avid collector? Maybe considering a new hobby? These collectible pieces of cardboard are football cards! In the 1880s, “trade cards” were printed advertisement “prizes” that also functioned as a cardboard stiffener inserted into flimsy cigarette packs. Advertising of other products morphed into printing encyclopedic designs of things men were interested in as they were the main demographic for cigarettes at the time.

Cambridge Glass Dazzles

Last Saturday, the National Depression Glass Museum hosted a “Coffee & Dessert” seminar featuring Freeman Moore, a Cambridge glassware expert and collector. Moore showcased his private collection of Cambridge glass pieces, displaying a stunning variety of colors, etching designs, and ornate patterns.

WSU Summer Graduates

Wichita State University conferred degrees to the following Wellington students in Summer of 2024. Lindsay I Hogan, Master of Education, Counseling Kileigh B Peninger, Bachelor of Arts in Education, ECU/Elementary Education Apprentice, Summa Cum Laude Melody A Rinehart, Bachelor of Arts, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Cum Laude Undergraduate students who attained a GPA of 3.9 out of a possible 4.0 received the Summa Cum Laude award; those with an average of 3.55 received the Magna Cum Laude award; and those with an average of 3.25 received the Cum Laude.
