Wind Turbine Deliveries Signal Progress at Wild Plains

This week, the Wild Plains Wind Energy Center, a project under construction by Florida- based NextEra Energy Resources, will begin receiving the wind turbine components. Between now and November, residents may notice oversized loads traveling through Sumner County as part of the project.

SEPTEMBER 12, - SEPTEMBER 9, 2024 Steven “Steve” Ray Dick, 77, passed away on September 6, 2024. Following cremation, interment will be held later at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington.

Steven Ray Dick, known affectionately to all as Steve, passed away on September 6, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas just a few days after his 77th birthday. Born in Winfield, Kansas on August 31, 1947, Steve lived a life filled with a love of music, machines, and most importantly, family.

County Commissioners Regular Session:

August 26, 2024 The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in the Commission room of the Sumner County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman John Cooney, Commissioner Jim Newell and Commissioner Steve Warner.

Girls Golf Team Places 3rd in Andover

The Wellington varsity girls golf team competed in the Andover Invitational at Crestview Country Club in Wichita for their second tournament of the season. The Lady Dukes brought home medals finishing 3rd behind two 5A schools, Kapaun Mount Carmel and Andover, shooting an +89 as a team.

Wellington City Council Meeting

The City Council meeting opened with the call to order and pledge of allegiance. This meeting took place in Memorial Auditorium to allow ample seating for the public to discuss the city’s proposed 2025 fiscal year budget.
