On August 21st, Wellington Fire/EMS responded to a structure fire at 133 South Maize Road in Wellington. Upon arrival, the crew encountered heavy fire conditions in a detached barn on the property, along with wildland fire conditions.

Wellington Heat pitcher and homegrown right-hander Keaton Hartman has signed with Allen County Community College. Hartman appeared in 13 games for the Heat this summer with a 3.77 ERA.

The 34th Annual Demolition Derby at the Sumner County Fair revved up the excitement in Caldwell on August 17th, with dirt flying and cars crashing in an action packed competition. The Derby featured two classes: Full-Size Builders and Full-Size Bone Stock.

Wellington Lodge #150 of the Freemasons of Kansas hosted a free concert on their lawn last Saturday night, featuring live music by “just Tori,” local favorites The Lough Brothers, and the nationally known Cajun & Zydeco band, The Mudbugs.
The 6th Annual Wellington Fire Golf Classic was held last Saturday at the Wellington Golf Club, where forty-one teams pre-registered to compete in the community’s largest scholarship golf tournament. “This is a great event,” said Ben Heasty, Director of the Wellington Golf Club.
