Crafting Memories With Lenny Scheufler

Local origami artist Lenny Scheufler is well-known for his beautifully folded creations. His intricate works of art have been on public display at the library as well as the courthouse. If you’ve met him, you may even be fortunate enough to have received one of his special pieces as a gift.

MERVIN ROGERS

Mervin passed away at age 84 in Santa Barbara, California on June 25, 2024. Mervin was born on September 7, 1939, in Wellington, Kansas, and lived in Wellington until 1981 when he moved to Santa Barbara, California. To say that Mervin was an enthusiastic sports fan would be an understatement.

Wellington Fire Golf Classic

The 6th Annual Wellington Fire Golf Classic was held last Saturday at the Wellington Golf Club, where forty-one teams pre-registered to compete in the community’s largest scholarship golf tournament. “This is a great event,” said Ben Heasty, Director of the Wellington Golf Club.

I know you’re no dummy and got this one right away! This vintage male mannequin is easily distinguishable and well known, but how long have these mannequins been around? How long ago would you guess? A hundred years, a couple hundred years? Alas, the mannequin’s history runs as deep as the 15th century! The early dummy was not the lifesize thing we think of, but was in miniature form similar to a fashion doll like a Barbie. These salesman size sample dolls would display Not until the 18th century did our inanimate, human- form friends become life size; this iteration was made from wicker.
