Sumner County has 4-H clubs in Wellington, Conway Springs, Caldwell, Belle Plaine and South Haven. The final results from member’s entries in the Static exhibits, the Hand Pet, Rabbit, and Poultry Show and Livestock Show for the 4-H Fair have been awarded.
Beloved former Wellington High School science teacher, Al Melichar, recently completed a monumental art project spanning the size of two football fields to honor the memory of his wife and brother, both of whom passed away from Alzheimer’s.
Last week’s STEM Camp held on the Cowley College Sumner Campus generated a unique cucumber smell as students engineered “cars” from a variety of fresh vegetables. By Jason Newberry, Assistant City Manager for Utilities and Information Technology Beginning this week and continuing through August 23rd, the City of Wellington Water Production Department will be conducting a free chlorine burnout of the water distribution system. This process entails temporarily switching from chloramines to free chlorine to optimize the water quality of the distribution system.
Mayfield’s traditional men’s summer fast-pitch tournament was held last week and the team from Anthony went home with 1st Place. Wellington’s Tijuana Taxis placed 2nd in this fun filled event that is just as well known for its delicious hamburgers.
The Wellington Heat started their week last Monday with a 17-4 win over the Wichita Farmers. The Heat scored three in the 2nd inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
