The Movie-Themed Sidewalk Chalking Contest was held in front of the Regent Theater and featured artists of all ages. The artwork covered contemporary as well as legendary characters, and brightened the sidewalks of downtown.
The Sumner County Antique Tractor Association conducted their tractor pull competition on Saturday evening. Competitors traveled to Wellington from neighboring communities, Goddard, Viola, Valley Center, Rose Hill, Osage City, Mulvane, and Wichita as well as Minneapolis.
The National Depression Glass Association Museum hosted a challenging Coin Toss event during the Kansas Wheat Festival. For a donation to the Museum, guests took a chance tossing a wooden coin at a table filled with vintage glass. Land the coin in the dish and it was yours to take home.
The upcoming Primary Election will be held on August 6th, and only the Republican and Democratic Parties are participating. There are no questions on the ballots, only candidates.
The Kansas Wheat Festival began in 1900 to celebrate an especially successful harvest. The tradition of honoring that heritage continues with a number of agricultural exhibits in Sellers Park.
For about ten years, the Wheat Capital Quilt Society has hosted a beautifully curated quilt show in conjunction with the Kansas Wheat Festival. This year, there were 125 entries and the Show was held in the Wellington Middle School Auxiliary Gym.
