The newest retail establishment in historic downtown Wellington is aptly named “Then & Now Mercantile,” located at 112 South Washington Avenue. Shop and building owners Sean Bryant and Bill Lindley are hosting a soft opening this week during the Kansas Wheat Festival to introduce the community to their new store.

Recently retired Cowley College Sumner Campus Operations Officer, Janet Grace is the newest resident to serve as a member of the Wellington City Council. Members of the governing body appointed Grace to fill the open position which she will occupy until November 2027.
The city council meeting opened with the call to order and pledge of allegiance. Councilman Kevin Dodds led the invocation.
In accordance with the United States Flag Code, adopted on June 14, 1923, Wellington’s Dan C. Matson VFW Post #881 and American Legion Post #90 recent; y conducted a flag retirement ceremony.

Izzy Shimer, a junior at WHS, is in her first year as a lifeguard at the Wellington Family Aquatic Center. Her favorite part of the job is being able to help people and working with friends.
