Kohmetscher Retires From Futures

After 36 years of service, Futures Unlimited’s President/CEO Tom Kohmetscher retired this week. He came to the agency in1988, having previously worked in direct care, special education, governmental regulatory compliance, national disability-related consulting, and community- based program development and operations.

Sandell Served His Hometown

After 32 years with the Wellington Fire Department, Assistant Fire Chief Vic Sandell is trading in his duty boots for golf shoes. Last Saturday, he celebrated his last shift with coworkers and reminisced about a career worthy of honor and filled with pride.

Smalley Earns Dean’s List

Washburn University has announced that Kayleigh Smalley from Wellington has been named to the spring 2024 Dean’s List. To qualify, a student must be enrolled in 12 hours of graded credits and earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 to 3.99.

Heat Have Mixed Week

The Wellington Heat went 3-2 last week. The up and down week started with a tough loss to the Park City Rangers, after taking a 2-1 lead the Heat gave up four runs to lose 5-2.

Camp HYPE Industry Tours

The recent Camp HYPE program was hosted by the Youth Employment Project (YEP), WorkForce Alliance, and Sumner Economic Development on the Sumner Campus of Cowley College. The fourday summer camp was sponsored by local businesses eager to connect with potential employees.

Chewy Comes To Wellington

The Wellington Public Library recently hosted a special “Zoo To You” presentation from the Tanganyika Wildlife Park at the Raymond Frye Complex. Guests had the opportunity to meet Chewy, their lovable two-toed sloth, Vera, the Uromastyx (a spiny-tailed lizard), Creeper, the Bearded Dragon, and Lieutenant Dan, the aptly named legless lizard.

Pet of the Week

Tootles is a gorgeous Husky mix around 2 years old. She was found in the country and no one claimed her. She is great with other dogs, but wants to chase livestock and chickens. She recently had a spa day thanks to a volunteer and got a much-needed brush out. She is a very happy girl who loves people and playing. She is your typical talkative Husky mix so be ready for lots of conversations! Stop in this week to meet Tootles! We are open Wednesday through Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. If you are interested in adoption, please complete the online application before you come in to speed up the adoption process.
