Established in 1995, Sumner County Emergency 911 Communications (SCEC) is the public safety answering point for all of Sumner County and the consolidated dispatch center for the law enforcement, fire, EMS, and Emergency Management agencies serving the county.

City of Wellington Firework Information

As the celebration of Indepence Day approaches on July 4th, for the health and safety of the community, fireworks cannot be discharged in city streets, at the Wellington Lake or in any city parks. By city ordinance, discharge hours for fireworks are: July 1st - July 3rd, 10am to 11pm July 4th, 10am to midnight Retail sale hours are: 10am to 10pm, July 1st - July 4th Bottle rockets and M80s are illegal in Kansas.

Hoyt Named To Dean’s List

Barton Community College has announced that Robin Hoyt from Wellington has been named to their Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.

Cookie Auction Supports 4-H

Southern Kansas SWAT Team

Originally known as the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team or S.E.R.T, the team adopted the name Southern Kansas SWAT in 2009. Tactically trained and specially equipped, the team is a highly skilled law enforcement unit established to reduce the risk of injury or loss of life to citizens, police officers, and suspects.

Lifeguard Of The Week: Taylor Earl

Taylor Earl, a senior at WHS, is starting her first year as a lifeguard at the Wellington Family Aquatic Center. She was invited to try lifeguarding and she’s glad she did. Her favorite part of the job so far is “building friendships and creating bonds with others.”

Sailfish Shine at Home

The Sailfish were back in their home pool last week competing against El Dorado. With 41 swimmers participating, there were several outstanding performances, including District qualifying times from Caroline Mott in the 50 Meter Freestyle and Owen Camblin in the 50 Meter Freestyle and 100 Meter Backstroke.

Safety Tips From Electric Town

Sumner-Cowley Electric Co-op., Inc. provided Chamber Coffee attendees with a demonstration of their new Electric Town safety exhibit during last Thursday’s meeting. Jordan Creed, Director of Operations, and Mitch McComb, Field Staking Technician, guided the audience through a number of electrical safety scenarios during the brief presentation.
