Despite last Thursday’s rain, the residents at Homestead remained enthusiastic as they warmly welcomed a few furry friends from Peachy Farms to their community. Several therapy animals, including an alpaca, mini-horse, and a couple of goats, enjoyed an abundance of love and attention from the residents.
Flag Day, observed annually on June 14th, commemorates when the stars and stripes were formally adopted by resolution of the Second Continental Congress on this date in 1777. The resolution stated, “That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

Our railway station was a grand structure that served as the introduction to our community for almost everyone who came to visit or live in Wellington. It stood on Washington Avenue near the railroad crossing until the late 1960s.
More than 40 communities across Kansas have established Land Banks to manage and repurpose vacant or abandoned properties, breathing new life into neighborhoods. Since its inception, the Wellington Land Bank has acquired 26 residential properties that are now available for purchase.
Recently ,the community gathered at Mid Kansas Cooperative) MKC (eager to exchange not only information but chickens and ducks .The event attracted several vendors as well as locals that raise backyard chickens .It‘s the first of many that MKS‘s Feed Sales Marketer for South/ Central Kansas ,Barbie Johnson plans to host in Wellington.
A few days ago, we had a Cessna L-19 Bird Dog at the airport. These airplanes were used by the U.S. Air Force, Army and Marine Corps for artillery spotting, front-line communications, medical evac and pilot training.
The Avenue of Flags at Prairie Lawn Cemetery stands as one of Wellington’s most cherished community traditions. Each year, approximately 300 volunteers come together to adorn the cemetery, creating a visually stunning tribute to our local heroes.
About 20 teams signed up to compete in the 18th Annual Walleye/Wiper Tournament at Wellington Lake last Saturday. Sponsors donated prizes.
