SCHGS Hosts Humanities Kansas Speaker

The Sumner County Historical & Genealogical Society invited Prisca Barnes, founder of Storytime Village, Inc., to speak in Wellington last week. Barnes’ presentation revisited the pivotal events surrounding the Dockum Drugstore Sit-In, one of the earliest student-led lunch counter protests of the Civil Rights era. The lecture took place at the Short General Education Center on the Sumner Campus of Cowley College.

Horse Thieves, Hangings & Lawmen

Jim Bales, Director of the Chisholm Trail Museum, recently captivated members of the Golden Tigers at the Cowley College Sumner Campus with a presentation on the enthralling history of Sumner County. Titled “Law and Order in the Wild West of Sumner County,” his talk delved into the tumultuous era of rowdy cattle drives, rife with gunfights, robberies, and horse and cattle thefts.

A Fine Performance

Britain’s Finest played at The Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, April 20th and the Wellington community turned out to see the show. Nearly 400 tickets were sold, including all the V.I.P.

Matt’s Hangar

Ford Motor Company’s Gulfstream G650 ultra-high-speed, ultralong- range business jet flew into the Wellington Municipal Airport this weekend. Manufactured by Gulfstream Aerospace, these airplanes are designed to provide all the comforts of home, at 50,000 feet. The aircraft can carry up to 18 passengers with a range of 7,000nm. The aerodynamic wing increases speed, range and fuel efficiency.

Gearing Up With CTE

The community is invited to attend the 13th Annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Showcase on Wednesday, April 24th, from 6-8pm at Wellington High School Commons. The showcase provides students with the opportunity to discuss the diverse technical and academic skills they are acquiring at WHS.
