
Adams Wins Teacher of the Year

Emmy award-winning Chief Meteorologist, Lisa Teachman, was a guest of the Wellington Lions Club on the Cowley College Sumner Campus. A member of the KSN Storm Track 3 Weather Team, Teachman shared her personal experiences with tornadoes that have struck through the years in Kansas as well as Oklahoma.
Last Saturday, the Wellington Senior Center celebrated 25th years at their current location in the Craft building at 308 South Washington Avenue. “We had a really good turnout and celebrated by sharing a lot of memories from the last 25 years,” said Marvin Rains, Senior Center Board President.
As you may recall, Quilts of Valor (QOV) are handmade quilts that are awarded to Service Members and Veterans that have been touched by war. Presentation of a QOV quilt says clearly “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” Since 2003, the Quilts of Valor Foundation has awarded nearly 350,000 handmade quilts to Service Members and Veterans across the country.
Golf Tournament Supports Bryce Day Memorial Foundation On Saturday, June 10th, area golfers will compete in a 4-Man Scramble Golf Tournament at the Wellington Golf Club to support the legacy of longtime Wellington resident and philanthropist Bryce Day.
The Wellington Recreation Center (WRC) has announced that the Family Aquatic Center will open for the season on Saturday, June 3rd. Center hours this summer will be 1-7pm, Monday through Sunday until August 6th.
The 6th Grade, 7th & 8Th Grade and Wellington High School Bands, under the direction of Allen Hisken, joined together to present the music of Brian Balmages for their final performance this school year.
The Young Eagles Flights program provided 57 kids with a free flight during the Chisholm Trail EAA 1631 Young Eagles Rally. A special thanks to EEA pilots Steve Hatfield, Steve Palmer, Jeff Townsend, Steve Turner, Keith Rhea and Mike Brunhoeber who donated their time and aircraft for the Rally.
Are you at least 10 years old and interested in becoming a babysitter? The K-State Research and Extension office along with other community partners are conducting a class about the responsibilities of babysitting on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 9am – 2pm at the Raymond Frye Complex, 320 North Jefferson in Wellington. The deadline for online registration is May 26th and there is a fee of $15.00 to participate.
Four WHS Choir students traveled to Andover to compete at the KSHSAA State Solo Festival held at Andover Central High School on April 29th. Several students brought home a II rating, the second best rating one can receive.
