Step Into Art

At the Bird and Gecko Stepping Stone class taught by the Wellington Recreation Commission’s Youth Art Program, young artists had the opportunity to design and create their own cement mosaics. All of the supplies were provided, including an assortment of colorful pieces of stained glass they could use to personalize their creation. Not only did they have fun, but as with many of the WRC classes, the art session also encouraged original thinking and self-expressionThe WRC has a couple of classes coming up for more mature aged students. The 2-part “Love Bird” pottery class is specifically aimed at artists 14 and older and includes the clay, glazes and two firings. The “Abstract Acrylic” class explores the world of abstract art using paint, inks, stencils, stamps and crushed glass. Artists must be 21 or older to attend, and the most liberating part of the class may be that students are welcome to bring their favorite beverage.
