Heroes In The Making: CTE Showcase

Wellington High School students showcased their wide-ranging talents at the 14th Annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Showcase held last week in the WHS commons and throughout the campus. This year’s theme, "Become a Hero," was reflected in a vibrant array of displays—from pottery, painting, and patient care to architectural plans, delectable hors d'oeuvres, fragrant petunias, and cutting-edge digital media projects.

Food Entrepreneurship Workshop Highlights Growth

Sumner County Economic Development, Network Kansas, K-State Research and Extension, and the Heartland Regional Food Business Center welcomed producers, farmers, and ranchers to the KanOkla Upstairs Downtown conference center in Caldwell for a day of informational sessions focused on food entrepreneurship, food incubators, commercial kitchens, financing options, and more. Part of K-State’s spring community visit series, the workshop explored what it takes to bring locally produced food to market.

From Coding to Clawbots: Robotics at Cowley

Cowley College hosted its annual Sumner County Robotics Competition last week, a two-day event that brought together teams of elementary, middle school, and homeschool students to participate in hands-on robotics challenges. With a strong emphasis on creativity, collaboration, and innovation, the event welcomed students of all backgrounds to explore STEM in an inclusive, team-based environment.

Kansas Poet Laureate Traci Brimhall

The Wellington Public Library welcomed Kansas Poet Laureate Traci Brimhall to the community on Saturday for an afternoon of creativity and inspiration. In just one hour, her dynamic and thought-provoking presentation had attendees writing original poems, reading aloud, and rediscovering the joy of language.

CTE Showcase – Wednesday, April 30

Hundreds of Wellington High School students in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program will showcase their projects in the Commons area and throughout the building on Wednesday, April 30, from 6 to 8pm. “This event will illustrate the rigor and relevance CTE courses offer our students,” explained WHS business instructor Melissa Buchanan.
