Overwatch Heroes At Nationals

For the first time in WHS history, a local Esports team has competed at the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF) High School National Championship held in Orlando, FL. Accompanied by Coach Todd Larkey, WHS Overwatch gamers Emma Gouch (Regal-Raccoon), Hagen Bryant (CrimsonFire), Draisyn Lea (CaptSlain), Hunter Worley (Darkender), Jaxon Highbarger(The1Eyed) and Jacob Dry (QuartzDrake) competed against other nationally ranked Overwatch teams from across the country.

Fort Hays Announces 2024 Graduates

Fort Hays State University held its spring commencement ceremonies on Friday and Saturday May 10-11. The following Wellington students were recognized; Cristy Harris earned a Bachelor of General Studies degree, Shiloh Rosenberg completed a Bachelor of Science in Education and Anne Zeka finished her Master of Science in High Incidence Special Education program.

Welcome to Oz

Since the beginning of May, actors with the Wellington Community Theater have been rehearsing for their upcoming children’s production of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” As they did with their performance in December, the play will be presented by two different casts performing four shows June 28th - 30th.

Smith Selected For Phi Beta Kappa

On May 12th, 2024 Wellington High School alum Abbigail Elise Smith was initiated into the University of Kansas Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Founded in 1176, Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest national academic honorary society. Dietrich Earnhart, president of KU’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter and professor of economics, presided at the ceremony as each student was individually recognized and presented with a certificate of membership to this highly selective honor society. Each new initiate was invited to sign their names in the chapter register — a tradition that dates back to 1912.
