The Wellington Youth Wrestling Club achieved a significant milestone by hosting its first annual “Crusade through the Heartland” tournament at Wellington High School on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Drawing participants from 24 wrestling teams across neighboring communities, the event saw a remarkable turnout with 296 youth wrestlers entering the competition.
“It makes my heart grow so large in my chest because of all the love and support I know Wellington can bring. My goal every year is to make sure that the visiting team feels loved and welcomed. Every year since I have been part of this basketball organization Wellington has never let me down.”
On Monday, January 29th, Kansas marked its163rd birthday, and the occasion was celebrated at both Eisenhower and Washington Elementary Schools. Guided by 4th-grade teacher Vanessa Sawyer, students at Eisenhower’s 4th grade took on the role of instructors, imparting Kansas history and knowledge to the Kindergarten and First Grade classes.
After competing in a dual at home against Clearwater last Thursday, the Wellington girls and boys wrestling teams competed in tournaments on back to back days going to Remington on Friday and the girls went to Wichita South on Saturday.
Steve Springer, a current scout for the Oakland Athletics and Owner of Quality At-Bats, is set to speak in the WHS Auditorium at 5pm on Saturday, February 10th. With over 14 years of experience as a professional player and more than 1,600 hits in the minor and major leagues with the Mets and Indians, Springer will share insights gained from his 30+ years in professional baseball as a player, agent, and scout.
Last week, Wellington High School showcased its academic prowess as it hosted a League Scholar’s Bowl competition, welcoming Varsity and JV teams from a number of area high schools. WHS fielded two teams for the meet: Red (Varsity) and Gray ( JV).
Wellington High School students enrolled in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) program are diligently preparing for the upcoming state leadership conference, scheduled to take place in Wichita from February 15 to 17, 2024.
Cowley College proudly announces the President’s and Dean’s Honor Rolls for the fall 2023 semester. Students on the President’s Honor Roll achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, completing a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Washburn University proudly announced that Kayleigh Smalley of Wellington achieved Dean’s List honors during the Fall 2023 semester. To qualify for this distinction, Kayleigh demonstrated outstanding academic performance by being enrolled in at least 12 hours of graded credits and achieving a semester grade point between 3.4 to 3.99.
During the Cowley College Board of Trustees Meeting last October, community members expressed the desire for the college to expand its offering of Golden Tiger Courses in Wellington. I’m excited to inform you that we are now providing 10 classes, along with the Bits & Bites series, to be held right here in Wellington.
