Cookies for a Cause

Looking for a way to satisfy your sweet tooth and support local youth? Don’t miss the Sumner County 4-H Council’s Cookie Jar Auction, happening during the Wheat Festival Picnic in the Park on Wednesday, July 9 at 6pm. 4-H Clubs across Sumner County will enter uniquely decorated, treat-filled cookie jars in the auction.

Namaste, Kids!

Staff and visitors at the Wellington Humane Society recently welcomed back their most entertaining yoga partners—baby goats from Half Pint Acres Farm! Fourteen playful “kids” joined instructor Ashlen Hearlson and her students for a feel-good, goat-filled yoga class right at the shelter. “This event not only helps raise funds for the shelter animals, it also helps support a local Sumner County business,” said Executive Director Jodie Hearlson.

WHS FFA Members Earn Recognition

Members of the Wellington High School FFA Chapter traveled to Manhattan last week to take part in the 97th annual Kansas FFA State Convention, hosted on the Kansas State University campus. The multi-day event included seven general sessions held in McCain Auditorium, along with band and chorus performances, leadership workshops, and award presentations.

Schwartz Earns Teaching Honor

Desiree Schwartz, Business Education Teacher at Wellington Middle School, was presented with the USD 353 School Foundation’s “Excellence in Teaching Award” during the district’s annual Employee Appreciation Program on Friday, May 23. Schwartz, who has been with the district for three years, received a certificate and a $1,000 check.

WHS Seniors Return to Their Roots

One of USD 353’s most cherished traditions was on full display as Wellington High School seniors donned their caps and gowns and walked the halls of the elementary schools they once attended. The annual Senior Walk is a highlight for both the younger students and the graduating class.

Class Night Celebrates Accomplishments, Scholarships, and Legacy

The Wellington High School Class of 2025 gathered for a celebratory Class Night, an evening filled with recognition of student accomplishments, the awarding of scholarships, and the honoring of a community legend. The evening opened with a meaningful presentation by WHS alumnus Pastor Charles McKinzie, who awarded the first scholarship of the night to Rachel Ewing.
